New Delhi: Delhi’s assembly will consider a resolution on Friday, to present the vice president Mohan Singh BishtTo change the name of its constituency of the Mustafabad Assembly to Shiv VIhar, “in view of the feelings of the voters of the constituency.”
The business list of the Assembly showed that Bisht, a MLA of the ruling party Bharatiya Janata (BJP), will present a resolution of private members: “This Chamber resolves that the name of the constituency of the Mustafabad Assembly can be changed to Shiv Vihar in view of the feelings of the voters of the constantness.”
It will move the resolution after lunch during the current budget session, according to PTI.
In a conversation with Ani, Bisht claimed Mustafabad, a seat established after the 2008 delimitation, received his current name due to “political interests of certain individuals.”
“I have given a proposal to change Mustafabad’s name. Between 1998 and 2008, when it was the MLA, the constituency was known as Karawal Nagar. Mustafabad did not take the name of any religious guru. There used to be a real estate concessionaire here by the name of Mustafa, who, along with some political persons, changed the name of the constituence to Mustafabad for political strains. He has repeatedly renamed the seat alleging that he has a “higher population of Hindus” who want his name to change to Shiv Vihar or Shiv Puri.
Mustafabad is in the northeast of Delhi, which was shaken by a fierce community violence in which more than 50 people lost their lives, immediately after the assembly surveys in February 2020, won by the AAM AADMI (AAP) party.
In the recent elections of the Assembly, Bisht won the constituency defeating AAP candidate Ahmad Khan for more than 17,000 votes. The 67 -year -old man became a MLA for the first time in 1993 in the neighborwal nagar seat.
For the first time since 1998, BJP was chosen to administer the national capital, winning 48 of the 70 seats. The AAP, which had dominated Delhi since 2013, was reduced to 22 seats.
AAP opposes the proposal
Bisht’s proposal has caused opposition criticism. AAP MLA SANJEEV JHA strongly criticized the BJP government, stating that they were “chosen to govern, not simply alter the names.”
JHA pointed out that the name changes are “ineffective”, since there are numerous places in Delhi with URUCU names.
“The public has chosen them for work. This is a government that only changes the names. They change the name where they are chosen. There are thousands of Urudu names, change them all. How good will people do? It would be good to discuss how the people of Mustafabad will develop. There are thousands of places in Delhi that the names of Urdu. Change the name will not benefit Delhi.
