More than two months after the fires devastated several communities in northern Saskatchewan, residents ask why some have not yet received a visit from Prime Minister Scott MOE.
The opposition of the PND of the province held a press conference on Monday with northern residents who criticize MOE for not visiting Den Beach, East Trout Lake or Sucker River.
MOE met with the recently returned residents of Beauval and La Loche on Monday, but the opposition criticized him for planning to attend a collection of golf tournament funds for the Sask. Party at Elk Ridge, near Waskesiu, on Tuesday.
He asked for criticism, Sask. The party provided a statement. He did not address questions about MOE visiting Denare Beach, East Trout Lake and Sucker River, but shot the NDP on the issue of golf tournaments.
“The lost and reckless NDP has requested the cancellation of the next fund collectors,” said the statement. “The NDP is being dishonest and have already celebrated two of their own golf tournaments on June 13 and June 24, with another next week on August 21 with the leader Carla Beck.”
In July, Moe declared that he had visited the Beaucal area, the Ronge area and the Lake Montreal area, along with some evacuation centers.
Dustin Tumbury, a Denare Beach resident, said he had to observe domestic cameras from an evacuation site in Swan River while his community was destroyed.
“I am not saying that they could have saved it, but they could have done something better and our life could be much more pleasant than it is now,” said Trobley. “Mr. Moe shows me that he does not care about us in the north, and that is why he is not appearing … we need some responsibility to know that this will not happen next year and what they are going to do next year.”
Trobley said that his decision to rebuild was difficult, because he has no faith that the forest fire response of the province will improve in the future and could lose his home again.
“You need to assume responsibility, you need to explain what you will do to avoid this in the future, so we have peace of mind for the next season, this fall, or the next thunderstorm,” Trobley said.

Jordan McPhail, NDP MLA for the northern constituency of Cumberland, said Moe should focus on bringing relief from forest fire victims.
“I think that when you listen to people I have been talking to throughout northern Saskatchewan, they have felt abandoned by this prime minister,” McPhail said. “We have heard that they have needed more resources since day 1, and the province took too long to respond to the calls of frontline firefighters.”
The Saskatchewan people defender is in the process of investigating the Sask. Forest Fire Fire Response.
Until Friday, 86 active forest fires continued burning in the province; Only six of which were considered content.
