NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has conducted searches at nine locations in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum in connection with a Naxalism case related to the recovery of money and incriminating materials, according to an official statement issued on Sunday. During searches conducted on Saturday at the premises of the banned terrorist outfit PCI (Maoist) suspects and Over Ground Workers (OGW) at nine locations, NIA teams seized mobile phones, memory cards, SIM cards and other incriminating materials, said.
The case arose from the recovery and seizure of a 20-litre plastic can containing Rs 10,50,000 in cash, a walkie-talkie, a Samsung tablet, a power bank, a radio set, a tax collection receipt , a pull-through and jelly bars. , a neckband, titan glasses and other incriminating objects belonging to CPI (Maoist) member Misir Besra, according to the statement issued by the NIA.
These materials, found buried in the forest areas situated between Husipi and Rajabhasa villages, were recovered following the disclosure of an accused, identified as Rajesh Deogam, he said.
The case was originally registered in March 2024 at Tonto police station in Chaibasa district, Jharkhand, against five accused, and was subsequently taken over by the NIA in July.
The investigations led to the identification of certain suspects and OGWs, allegedly involved in providing logistical support to the accused named in the FIR in the present case and other senior cadres of the CPI (Maoist) to promote their illegal/criminal activities, according to the release.
The searches on Saturday were carried out at the premises of these suspects and OGW as part of the NIA’s ongoing investigation in the case, he added.
