New Zealand said Rachin Ravindra was recovering well after taking a full ball in the face during the opening match of a series of tri-nations in Lahore on Saturday.
The 25 -year -old was filming in a deep square leg when he seemed to lose sight of the ball against the reflectors of the Gaddafi stadium as he formed a capture to fire Khushdil Shah in the 38 of Pakistan’s tickets.
The blood spilled from the head of a stunned Ravindra as the crowd looked with concern. After being treated, he left the field holding a tight bandage on the bloody forehead.
The team said that Ravindra had suffered a cut in the face, but was “good” and had approved his first head injury evaluation (HIA).
“He has been aware all the time, which is fantastic,” said his teammate Glenn Phillips to journalists from the Gaddafi stadium.
“Obviously it was a quite scary moment, he lost the ball in the lights and unfortunately the ball won that situation this time. He is being monitored and I’m sure he will be anxious to go as soon as possible. “
In an Instagram publication, a Black Caps update said it was unlikely that Ravindra appeared in Tomorrow’s game against South Africa after “suffered a laceration on the forehead.”
“The player approved the initial evaluation of head injuries and laceration, which required stitches, was addressed and treated on the ground,” said the statement.
“Otherwise, it is fine and will continue to be monitored under the protocols of HIA,” he added.
Ravindra had scored 25 of 19 balls at the top of the order when New Zealand accumulated 330-6 before his team claimed a 78-racing victory in yesterday’s game.
Phillips was appointed game player after scoring his first one -day international century to take New Zealand to Victoria.
His undefeated 106 came from only 74 deliveries and helped the black caps to a 330 score for six in their 50 overs before they cover their hosts for 252.
“Odi Cricket has been my favorite format to grow and it is always something that I have been reaching to get that century,” said Phillips, who was playing his 37th International one day.
“It was a quite surreal moment, I have been chasing it for a couple of years, obviously, hitting six does not mean that their opportunities to score a hundred are always there.
“Fortunately today, everything aligned very well.”
New Zealand faces South Africa on Monday at the same stadium in the warming of Tri-Series for the next Trophy Champions, which begins when the black caps face Pakistan again in Karachi on February 19.
