New US envoy discusses economic ties with Finance Minister Aurangzeb – Business

The United States Chargé d’Affires in Pakistan Elizabeth Horst met on Monday to the Minister of Finance, Muhammad Aurengzeb in Islamabad, according to a press release from the Finance Division.

The United States Department of State appointed Elizabeth Horst the interim ambassador to Pakistan on Thursday.

Horst, a diplomat of his senior career, served as Deputy Deputy Secretary Deputy to the South Affairs Office and Central Asians before arriving in Pakistan to take care of his position.

“Horst welcomed economic progress and the approach promoted by government reform, emphasizing the commitment of the United States to strengthen economic and commercial ties with Pakistan,” said the press release.

The meeting served as an opportunity to exchange points of view on matters of mutual interest and reaffirm the positive trajectory of bilateral relations between Pakistan and the United States.

The Minister of Finance expressed his appreciation for the support of long data extended by the United States towards the economic development of Pakistan. In particular, he praised the continuous support of the United States to macroeconomic stability achieved during the last year and a half, and welcomed the healthy impulse in bilateral commitment in several sectors.

“Remembering his recent visit to the United States, the minister shared ideas of his productive meetings with the United States Secretary Howard Lutnick and the ambassador of the United States Commerce Representative Jamieson Greer in Washington, DC,” the statement continued.

He observed the encouraging progress in the deepening of trade and economic ties between the two countries.

Aurengzeb stressed the importance of the United States as the greatest commercial partner of Pakistan and highlighted Pakistan’s great interest in expanding bilateral cooperation beyond the traditional sectors. Specifically pointed out the promising potential in information, mineral and agriculture technology as ways for mutually beneficial collaboration.

The Minister of Finance also informed Horst about the recent macroeconomic indicators of Pakistan, including the improvements of sovereign qualification and the renewed investor’s confidence.

He outlined the government reform agenda focused on critical areas such as taxes and energy, aimed at unlocking long -term sustainable economic growth.

“In addition, he shared updates on the successful entry of Pakistan in the capital markets of the Middle East, his next plans to issue the Panda inaugural bonus and future access to euro markets and US dollars,” added the press release.

The interim ambassador of the United States reiterated the support of the United States to continuous economic and political stability in Pakistan and expressed optimism for a durable and robust commercial association between the two nations.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to rely on the impulse of current commitments to further deepen bilateral cooperation.

Last week, the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, praised the role of Pakistan in the “global and regional peace” at his first meeting with the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ishaq Dar, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FO).

The relations between the United States and Pakistan saw a great impulse when Trump was the host of the head of the Army staff of the Army also in the White House last month at an unprecedented meeting.
