The BJP said a two -thirds majority in the elections of the Delhi Assembly, marking the end of the rule of a decade of the AAM AADMI (AAP) party in the capital. This victory led BJP to power in Delhi after 27 years, with the party winning 48 of 70 seats.
AAP managed to win only 22, with several of its main leaders, including former Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former main vice minister Manish Sisodia, suffering defeats. Kejriwal lost New Delhi’s seat to Parsh Verma of BJP by a margin of 4,089 votes, while Congress candidate, Sandeep Dikshit, worked badly, ensuring only 4,568 votes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised victory as “historical”, saying: “The people of Delhi have expelled ‘AAP-Da’. Today, development, vision and trust have won in Delhi. Ostetation, anarchy, arrogance and the ‘AAP-DA’ that they had wrapped to Delhi have been defeated. “
