Cape Canveral, Florida – a little more than a day after flying, a capsule of the Spacex crew arrived at the International Space Station on Sunday, delivering the replacements of the two NASA stuck astronauts.
The four newcomers, which represent the United States, Japan and Russia, will spend the next few days learning the ins and outs of the Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams station. Then, the two will put themselves in their own Spacex capsule at the end of this week, one that has been there since last year, to close an unexpected extended mission that began last June.
Wilmore and Williams expected to have left only one week when they launched on the first Boeing Astronauts flight. They arrived at the nine -month brand earlier this month.
The Boeing Starliner capsule found so many problems that NASA insisted that it returns empty, leaving its test pilots behind to wait for a Spacex elevator.
Wilmore opened the Hortilla of the Space Station and then called the bell of the ship while the newcomers floated in one and were received with hugs and handshakes.
“It was a wonderful day. Great to see our friends arrive, ”Williams told Mission Control.
Wilmore and Williams’ trip arrived at the end of September with a reduced crew of two and two empty seats reserved for the leg. But there were more delays when the new capsule of their replacements needed extensive battery repairs. An older capsule took its place, uploading its return for a couple of weeks in mid -March.
The weather allows it, the Spacex capsule that transports Wilmore, Williams and two other astronauts will disin from the space station not before Wednesday and splashed the Florida coast.
Until then, there will be 11 aboard the orbiting laboratory, which represents the United States, Russia and Japan.
