NASA estimates that the asteroid measures between 130 feet and 300 feet wide. In the improbable case that he arrived on Earth, the asteroid would probably “impact high speed” of approximately 38,000 mph, according to the Jet Jet Propulsion Laboratory of the Object Center for the Earth Center in the Propulsion Laboratory to NASA Jet.
A space rock of that size would probably cause local damage, but it would not threaten the entire planet or humanity, as could be the case if a much larger asteroid was ongoing collision with land.
The 2024 year asteroid was first detected by the station of the Land Impact Asteroid alert in Chile on December 27, 2024. Since then, researchers have been studying space rock using terrestrial telescopes.
NASA said the asteroid will continue to be visible to terrestrial observatories until April. After that, the space rock will be too weak to see until around June 2028.
The James Webb space telescope of the agency will train its eyes on the asteroid in March to better evaluate its size, according to NASA.
