Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with the Russian ambassador to Pakistan, Albert P. Khorev, on Tuesday in Islamabad, where both agreed to activate the anti -terrorist dialogue among their countries.
Pakistan and Russia witnessed a couple of bilateral exchanges last year, including the visit of Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to Islamabad in October for top 23 of the Shanghai cooperation organization.
“There was an agreement between the two countries to activate the anti -terrorism dialogue,” said a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior after the meeting between NAQVI and Khorev.
According to the Ministry, the two leaders also decided to increase cooperation between Pakistan and Russia to counteract terrorism and drug trafficking.
“Terrorism is a global challenge and only joint multilateral actions can control this scourge,” said the Ministry of Interior statement.
“We will promote bilateral contacts to further strengthen relations with Russia,” said the statement citing Naqvi. He pointed out that there were great opportunities to expand cooperation between countries in several areas.
Ambassador Khorev also invited Pakistani officers to attend anti -narcotics training programs in Moscow and Siberia.
They also agreed to “maximize the bilateral exchange of delegations.” Affairs of mutual interest and promotion of bilateral relations were discussed during the meeting, the ministry said.
Last week, the ties of Pakistan-Russia, including exchange programs for students and impulse tourism, were discussed when Khorev met with a delegation led by Habib Ahmed, honorary consular of the Russian Federation in Lahore.
During the October 2024 visit of Prime Minister Mishustin, his counterpart Shehbaz had thanked Russia for supporting Pakistan’s attempt to join BRICS, the main southern global block, marking a step towards a deeper collaboration in the global stage.
The two countries had agreed to follow solid dialogue and cooperation in areas of commerce, industry, energy, connectivity, science, technology and education.
Defense cooperation was also seen in October when Pakistan and Russia conducted a joint military exercise with the name of Druzhba (friendship) VII, and both countries promised to deepen security cooperation during high -level conversations held later.
At the beginning of that month, two agricultural companies in Russia and Pakistan signed bartering agreements to exchange chickpeas and lentils of Russia in exchange for rice, tangerines and potatoes.
The agreement occurred days after the attached prime ministers of both countries met in Islamabad, where they made conversations at the delegation level. Vice President Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk also met with the head of the Army personnel, the general also, to discuss defense cooperation.
