Punjab police said Wednesday that they arrested a man suspected of bothering a younger girl in the finen district after a video of the incident became viral online.
The incident video made the rounds on social networks earlier and generated intense criticism with the calls to the suspect that was arrested, particularly when the police arrested a man after a footage that allegedly showed him to bother a younger girl in the Kasur district also became viral online.
A statement issued by the Fine Crimes Control Department (CCD) said today: “The man who tried to sexually assault a girl was arrested in a” wound “condition.”
The incident occurred on July 15 in the Mustafa neighborhood, a rashidabad area, with the limits of the Bahauddin Zakaria police station when “an unknown person tried to sexually assault a girl in the street and fled the scene,” according to the statement.
A case was recorded under section 377B (unnatural crimes with a minor) of the Pakistan Criminal Code (PPC) at the BZ Police Station and the investigation of the case was delivered to the CCD.
The statement said the police received a notice about the whereabouts of the suspect and made a raid in an unleashed place to arrest it.
“The suspect who tried to evade the arrest opened fire against the police team and hurriedly, accidentally said goodbye and hurt,” the statement said, added that he was taken to the Nishtar hospital to receive medical treatment.
“The police identified him through the criminal record office that he was the suspect he abused the minor girl,” the statement added.
He added that the suspect’s criminal history revealed that he was nominated in a case for killing his brother in 2023. The case was registered under section 302 (punishment for murder) at the BZ police station.
