A 37 -year -old woman and her 2 -year -old daughter died because of her wounds two days after an intentionally run over a crowd in Munich, German police said.
A police spokesman said the mother and daughter died on Saturday afternoon. At least 37 people were injured in the attack on Thursday.
Their names have not been released.
The attack occurred on the day before an important security conference began with defense leaders and would begin defense leaders. The authorities said the attack was intentional and is being treated as Islamic extremism.
The suspect, a 24 -year -old Afghan who has not been identified, said in a police interview that led to the crowd on purpose, said Gabriele Tilmann, a superior public prosecutor, at a press conference. The reason for the suspect “could be summarized as a religious reason,” Tilmann said.
“I can’t say more about it, but what he said would lead us to conclude that it was a religious reason,” he said.
“We do not want to reach any conclusion, but given what happened, suppose that this was an Islamic extremist attack,” he continued, adding that the suspect prayed after his arrest.
He was accused of 36 positions of murder attempt, as well as serious bodily damage and reckless driving.
