More homes evacuated as wildfire burns in Kings County


More houses are evacuated when a forest fire is burned with control near Lake George in Kings County.

An alert issued at 10:14 am A says that the new evacuations are for Aylesford Road from Fox Mountain Campground to 3847 Aylesford Rd., All directions in Spruce Drive, Birch Lane and Blue Lane, and all the directions between 5 North River Rd. A 1493 North River RD.

The alert says that residents are asked to go immediately and register at the reception center at the Louis Millett Center in New Mines.

The fire, which exploded on Sunday, was estimated at 150 hectares on Tuesday. The Natural Resources Department said that 275 addresses have already been evacuated, some of which are cabins.

Jim Rudderham, director of Fleet and Forest Protection of the department, told journalists that the cause of the fire has not been determined, but it is presumed that human activity is responsible since there have not been lightning in the area.

“It’s frustrating for us and everyone when this happens,” Rudderham said.

A crew of 23 DNR and 20 local firefighters were helping to fight the fire on Tuesday. Six airplanes, four of the Northwest and two territories of Quebec, were dropping water. They were being assisted by two hired helicopters and one of DNR. Six pieces of heavy equipment were on stage building fire jumps.

The fire moved from the north end of Lake George to the east to the northern end of Lake Aylesford.

It broke out only one day after the long forest fire of the Lake in Annapolis County, which began on August 13 and destroyed 20 houses, was finally considered under control.
