Nueva Delhi: There will be more deliberations on security issues and privacy considerations, violation and general operational control for satellite -based toll, on Wednesday the Minister of Road Transport Nitin Gadkari to Rajya Sabha said Wednesday. On March 1 he had reported that the senior government officials had told a parliamentary panel that the new toll system will be deployed only after India has its own required constellation of navigation satellites with total coverage and after addressing privacy problems.
In a written answer to a question of Parliament, the minister said that the APEX committee and the high -level empowered committee consisting of experts in the industry and the academy, in view of the security and privacy considerations, breach and general operational control, have recommended more deliberations for satellite -based toll.
He added that the expert committee has held a series of meetings, and according to deliberation, it is intended to proceed with corridor -based projects for Automatic enrollment recognition (ANPR) and Fastag System (AFS) based on free flow toll without barrier.
The minister said: “With the existing navigation characteristics with the Indian constellation (NAVIC), satellite -based toll requires additional satellite constellations and the development of appropriate receptors to achieve the desired level of positional precision.”
Ministry officials had told the parliamentary panel that the fully functional satellite navigation system of India and technology are necessary to protect the privacy of citizens and guarantee data security. They had added that the government will not use any foreign navigation system for this purpose.
