Boogie boarder Carlos Hebert-Plante has never let the cold stop him from jumping into the St. Lawrence River.
On Christmas Day this year in Montreal, Hebert-Plante donned a Santa suit and jumped into the cold water as temperatures hovered around -15 degrees Celsius in the Lachine neighborhood.
“I surfed all year, every day,” Hebert-Plante told CTV News. “In hot or cold conditions, I surf of all kinds. [It was] fun today.”
Canadian press photographer Bernard Brault captured some striking images from that day.
“I often go looking for fog and sunrise with a drone and my friend Bernard, we arrive early,” said Hebert-Plante, who wears an arctic wetsuit when he surfs.
The St. Lawrence River standing wave is near downtown Montreal and is a popular spot for surfers. Hebert-Plante said he feels comfortable year-round.
“The cold gives me smiles that the heat doesn’t, and the snowy waters make a snow park fun,” he admitted.
