Montreal arson squad investigating business fire

The Montreal Police Fire Brigade (SPVM) is investigating the arson bombing of a vacant commercial space on Saturday night.

Police responded to the call around 8:45 p.m. at the location on St. Denis Street, just south of Cremezie Boulevard.

SPVM spokesman Jean-Pierre Brabant said firefighters had the fire under control when police arrived and that witnesses and information from the scene led firefighters to transfer the file to the fire brigade.

“It appears that one or more suspects were seen making a break for it and entering that building,” Brabant said, adding that an accelerant was found at the scene.

The suspects fled the scene before firefighters or police arrived.

The space suffered serious damage, but no injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
