Mom arrested after bringing gun to Indiana elementary school and harassing teacher over assignment

An angry mother of Indiana faces multiple positions after allegedly bringing a weapon to her daughter’s primary school and threatening the lesbian teacher of the sixth grade degree to “say goodbye to her children,” authorities said Tuesday.

Carrie Rivers, 48, was arrested and accused of possession of a firearm in school property and harassment in relation to the incident at Valley Mills Elementary School in Indianapolis.

Rivers threatened her daughter’s teacher for “a work task that had to do with relations between people of the same sexuality,” according to a affidavit that supports the woman’s arrest.

The officers of the Police Department of the School of the Municipality of Decatur responded last Wednesday about a “furious father” on the campus. When they arrived, the officers noticed that the rivers had something at the waist that looked like a firearm, according to the affidavit.

“Carrie Rivers declared that she had a gun when she eliminated her from her person,” wrote the police officer who responded to Tabetha Emenaker in the affidavit. “I advised Carrie Rivers about the law regarding having a firearm at school facilities and that it was an arrestable crime. She understood and declared that she did not even realize that she had it because she is so used to using it and has been in school property with him before.”

Then, the mother said she was taking her daughter from Valley Mills primary and opting for education at home, police said. She also called her daughter’s teacher an insult that despises lesbians, according to the affidavit.

Police let the rivers go, but then sent a threatening message to their daughter’s teacher 25 minutes later, according to the affidavit.

Rivers told the teacher that “God will condemn him to hell” and that “his (sic) a child predator,” says the affidavit.

Rivers supposedly told the teacher to “say their prayers and kiss your children goodbye and good night, you never know when God says that it is (sic) our time, so prepare.”

The teacher, who maintains a photo of her wife and daughter in her desk, told the Police that “he gave a task to the whole class with the theme of the flags.” When I was giving examples of flags in the country, it also made reference to the rainbow flag in the classroom with the words “Being friendly,” said the affidavit.

Rivers told the teacher that she did not agree with a task, accusing the educator to “try to promote his personal agenda regarding the sexuality of her daughter,” said the affidavit. The teacher said that Rivers’s daughter will skip the task.

Even so, in another message that the rivers sent to the teacher, he called on the educator a predatory child who tells “precious innocent children that it is fine to be in same -sex relationships,” according to the affidavit.

The suspect’s husband, Leon Rivers, said his wife did not mean damage and has a firearm for “security all the time” and “forgot to leave him” behind when he was “running” to school that day.

“We see that (other parents) bring weapons to school all the time, just to leave children,” News told NBC on Tuesday. “I mean, you know, just coming and leaving the children and walking back, as, for three seconds. They are parked on the front, leave the child, walk them and walk back.”

The rivers will not be allowed again on the campus, according to the Metropolitan School District of the Municipality of Decatur.

“There were no threats against students or staff at that time. The police suspected that the parents had possession of a hidden gun in their person and escorted her out of the building. At that time, they took possession of the parents’ weapon without incidents outside the school. The father declared that he forgave the gun before the property of the school,” said the district in a statement.

“After the incident, he was struck that the father sent messages of harassment and threatening to his son’s teacher. A arrest warrant was presented, and he is not allowed in any school property of the municipality of Decatur. We are committed to guaranteeing a safe learning environment for students and staff, and we are grateful for the rapid action of the office of the office and the school police in the management of the situation.
