NEW DELHI: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday directed his attack on AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that there was little difference between the two leaders. “Modi and Kejriwal are like brothers, two sides of the same coin. Both have emerged from the RSS ideology: one from its ‘shakha’ and the other from its institutions,” Owaisi said while campaigning for Shifa-ur-Rehman, the AIMIM candidate. from Okhla constituency.
Owaisi took out a walk in Shaheen Bagh, urging residents to support AIMIM by voting for the ‘kite’, the party’s electoral symbol, in the February 5 elections in Delhi.
The party has fielded two candidates, Tahir Hussain from Mustafabad and Shifa-ur-Rehman from Okhla. Both candidates are currently in jail in 2020 Delhi riot cases.
Tahir Hussain, a former Aam Aadmi Party councillor, joined AIMIM last December after being jailed.
During his speech, the AIMIM chief questioned the judicial process, alleging bias in favor of the AAP leaders. “How did Arvind Kejriwal get bail in the liquor policy case, while Tahir Hussain and Shifa-ur-Rehman remain in jail for the last five years? All their leaders, including Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, have been granted bail. released on bail, but these two are still behind bars. What is their fault?
Owaisi also attacked Kejriwal for neglecting the Okhla constituency. “In all other constituencies there is development, but why not in Ojla? Instead, Okhla has become a mountain of garbage under the AAP government“, said.
Comparing his reception with that of Kejriwal, Owaisi added: “People shower me with flowers when I walk on these roads, but if Kejriwal passes by, they will throw slippers at him.”
He further stated that the BJP would not win in Okhla. “The BJP has never won here and it will not win this time either,” he said.
The Delhi election results will be announced on February 8.
