The former Olympic fighter and star of MMA Ben Askren is opening over his recent and serious health problems, including that “he died four times” and underwent a double lung transplant.
In an Instagram video posted on July 9, he explained that he experienced the terrible experience between May 28 and July 2 and does not remember anything about that period of time.
“In fact, I read my wife’s diary because … (I don’t have) memory, zero idea, I have no idea what happened,” in a video of him in a hospital bed.
“It’s like a movie. It’s ridiculous. So I just died four times, or the ticket stopped for about 20 seconds,” he continued. “That is not ideal. You know it, but I obtained the double lung transplant. I arrived on the other side, gaining enough strength. We will use everything again.”
Askren has been at a Wisconsin hospital with pneumonia, said Associated Press. He coughed and fought sometimes to speak in the video, where he said he lost 50 pounds in the 45th -day period.
“Actually, honestly, yesterday, 147 pounds. I have not been 147 pounds since (he was) 15 years old,” he said.
Askren reiterated: “I don’t remember most” and said that the “most shocking” thing was the love I felt of everyone. “
“It’s almost as if I had to have my own funeral,” he added.
Askren, who was born in 1984, also promised to work hard on his way to recovery.
“I am more motivated than ever to return and do what I can to help the best I can to help,” he said. “I love you, I appreciate them. It has been difficult, not only in me, but also in my whole family and my nearby community.”
Askren also published a photo of himself in bed that was shared by MMA without censorship, which said he had four heart attacks.
In 2019, Askren announced his MMA retirement with a record of 19-2-1.
Before that, he won two National Championships of Division I of the NCAA while fighting at the University of Missouri. He was also in the United States fighting team at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.
In their social networks, the champion fighter and the MMA fighter suffered a serious case of pneumonia and has been in the hospital for several weeks.
His wife, Amy, said at the beginning of June on social networks that her husband was in the hospital in critical condition and required a fan due to a staphylococcal infection. He also shared that he would probably need a lung transplant. It was placed on the list of organ donors on June 24.
In the July 9 update of Askren, he shared that he had four heart attacks and had received a double lung transplant. He also said he has lost 147 pounds during the last month and a half due to his health problems.
