After the date of the Steve and Jeannine Van Ysseldyk movie ended with some disappeared wedding rings in a corn palomites bag, the path led to a steaming compost pile.
“I received an interesting question,” Steve asked the Compost Denny Webster processor, who manages the transformation of organic waste into compost, into the sanitary landfill of the mission.
“I wonder if I can search the compost battery for my wife’s rings that I think are there. I know exactly what bag they are. I know what I am looking for. There are some corn popcorn and a timbit box.”
A couple in Mission lost a couple of wedding rings in the garbage, and found themselves following their noses on a trace of very smelly clues. As Kier Junos of CBC reports, the search led to a landfill.
Jeannine’s solitary diamond ring was an update of its original commitment ring, and the second diamond band was the 10 -year wedding anniversary of Van Ysseldyk.
Webster was skeptical that Steve would find the diamonds in the landfill. He goes through dozens of waste trucks every day.
But Webster quickly learned that Steve was very familiar with his garbage.
“I looked and said: ‘Oh, there is a bag of popcorn,'” said Webster. “And then realized [some] sausages that were yours too. Then I said: ‘ok, maybe this man is legitimate’.
Well, he is in his hands and knees in the rain, and is very stinky. And no one in their right mind would be doing that. “
But how did he think Steve would be on the landfill?
He and Jeannine were watching the F1 movie at Langley Imax last Wednesday. Jeannine brought a large bag of popcorn for her daughter, but spilled on the grass when she left the car.
Using his hand with jewelry, he cleaned the buttony disaster and brought it inside.
Everyone ate corn popcorn. The bag entered the container, and left for the collection of Morning Compost.
The crisis was only clear the next night at dinner.
“I went to the bathroom. I washed my hands and looked down and said: ‘Where are my rings?’ In fact, I had to leave the restaurant because I was upset. “
After verifying multiple locations, Steve reviewed the home security images that showed the last time his wife used the rings before concluding that they were in the compost.
Steve met Webster on the landfill on Friday morning. Webster used an excavator to collect waste batteries so that Steve will move forward.
Fortunately, the smelly search did not last long.
“He found the ring quite quickly. Fifteen minutes after finding the corn palomites bag,” Webster said.
Steve and Jeannine were relieved.
“He called me immediately when he found the first,” Jeannine said.
“I was in Princess Auto buying a metal detector because I told him to be there,” Steve said. “I found the second, I called it again. I had already bought the metal detector.”
