A total of 125 cases of missing persons appeared to the Commission for Investigation on Forced Disappearances in the first half of 2025, arose on Wednesday.
The commission was created in 2011 to trace missing persons and set responsibility for people or organizations responsible for their disappearance.
Only in the month of June, a total of 27 cases of missing persons were received throughout the country, while 33 cases were eliminated.
The Commission offered a monthly breakdown of the cases received and arranged; 26 cases were received in January and 209 eliminated; 12 new cases in February and 104 eliminated; 30 were received in March and 34 eliminated; 11 were reported in April and 42 eliminated; 19 were received in May and 62 eliminated.
The total number of cases received until June 2025 was 10,592, while 1,914 cases of them were eliminated and 6,786 were traced, the commission said.
A total of 4,771 missing people have returned home, according to the report, while 1,017 people are arrested in internment centers and 705 in prisons.
According to the report, the bodies of 293 missing people have been recovered since the commission was formed in 2011.
Since then, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa registered the largest number of missing people received at 3,622, followed by Baluchistan in 2,885, Sindh to 1,847, Punjab, Punjab, Islamabad at 405, Azad Jammu and Kashmir at 71 and Gilgit-Baltist in 10.
KP also had the greatest number of missing people in detention centers in 855.
In December 2024, the Constitutional Bank of the Supreme Court emphasized that only Parliament has the authority to address and resolve the practice of long data, but illegal, of forced disappearances, a persistent problem that has plagued the nation for decades.
