NEW DELHI: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday said that the reference to sanatan and Hindu in India evokes disconcerting reactions from “wayward souls” driven by “dangerous ecosystem.’
Addressing the International Vedanta Congress organized at JNU, Dhankhar said that people reacting to these terms without understanding the depth of the words and meaning is ironic and painful.
“It was ironic and painful that in this country the reference to Sanatan, the reference to Hindus evoked bewildering reactions beyond all comprehension,” Dhankhar said.
“Instead of understanding the depth of these words, their deep meaning, people tend to react in the blink of an eye,” he added.
Dhankhar also termed such people as “souls who are misguided” and driven by a “dangerous ecosystem that is a threat not only to the society but also to themselves.”
“The right of expression is a divine gift. Its restriction, its dilution by any mechanism is not healthy and this brings another aspect to the scene, dialogue. If you have the right to express, (but) you do not dialogue, then things can change. “Not working. Both things must go hand in hand,” Dhankhar said.
“Dialogue, debate, discussion and deliberation have disappeared under the onslaught of disruption and disruption, even in the theaters of democracy,” he added.
The vice president said that at a time when global disciplines are adopting the vedanta philosophyThere are “some in this land of spirituality” who dismiss the Vedanta and Sanatani text as “regressive.”
“This dismissal often arises from perverted and colonial mentalities, from an inefficient understanding of our intellectual heritage. These elements work in a structured way, in a sinister way,” said the vice president.
