The Minister of State of the Interior, Talal Chaudhry, warned on Wednesday the public about terrorist groups that use WhatsApp channels “to disseminate hateful content and harmful narratives”, urging the platform and the international community to help Pakistan fight the threat of terrorism.
In an X publication, the Minister of State said that the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) outlaw, designated as a terrorist organization by the United Nations and the United States, was operating its WhatsApp channels and sending bulk messages to “proliferate its violent/hateful ideology, to spread their harmful narratives and glorification of their horror activities.”

Founded in 2007, the TTP has organized a large number of attacks throughout Pakistan, which leads to a prohibition of the group on August 24, 2008. It remains in the list of organizations of the National Terrorism Authority (NACTA) of proscribed organizations.
According to data from the Pakistan Peace Studies Institute (PIP), during the height of its insurgency in 2009, the group carried out 2,586 terrorist attacks and 3,021 deaths. A large -scale military offensive launched in 2014 gave a massive blow to the group’s command and control structure, drastically reducing insurgent violence throughout Pakistan. Sporadic attacks aimed at security forces, however, continued.
After celebrating several rounds of conversations with the group, the government of former Prime Minister Imran Khan announced on November 8, 2022 that the group had accepted a complete fire. In November of that year, however, the TTP canceled the fire, promising to increase attacks against the police and security personnel.
With the resurgence of the group, the country has witnessed an increase in terrorist activities, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan, mainly made by the TTP.
In July last year, the government appointed the group as Fitna-al-Khawarijwhile ordering all institutions that use the term Khariji (marginalized) When referring to the perpetrators of terrorist attacks against Pakistan.
