Milwaukee Bucks striker, Bobby Portis, Jr. will miss Thursday against the Los Angeles Clippers after the NBA announced that she violated the league anti -drug policy.
The NBA said that Portis was penalized with an unpaid suspension of 25 games because he tested positive for Tramadol. The medicine is an analgesic that is often used for patients after surgery, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Portis explained in a statement that the medicine used while recovering from an elbow injury and had been using “a medication approved by the NBA for pain and inflammation.”
“During that time, I made an honest mistake and took an anti -inflammatory pill that reduces the pain that is not approved,” he said. “I feel horrible and I recognize that I am responsible for what I put in my body.”
The 30 -year -old apologized with the entire Bucks organization, including fans, for their mistake.
“I give everything I have on the court and I will terribly miss the Bucks during this time,” he said. “I will continue working hard and be ready for our long playoff career.”
Jon Horst, the general manager of the Bucks, said in a statement that the team respects the suspension of the NBA. He added that it was a “very difficult set of circumstances,” but the team supports Portis.
“Together we will take this opportunity to grow and we will have a better and stronger team in Bobby and Milwaukee Bucks,” said Horst. “It is an integral part of who we are, a great member of the Milwaukee community, and we expect his return.”
