CBC News had interviewed two families who said that Holmes’ support influenced their decision to choose AGM renovations for housing projects, a decision that they say they repent.
Both customers complained about the poor quality of AGM, including electrical problems.
In each case, AGM did not obtain a permit required for electrical work. In one of the cases, which involves the Cartier family in Barrie, Ontario, the company did not use a license electrician, according to the documentation seen by CBC. “We were furious, very angry. It’s our home, it’s where our children sleep,” said Eric Cartier. “We trust AgM to do it well and leave the house safe.”
Mike Holmes’ electrical security authority is being investigated by the Electrical Security Authority for insecure work, and when CBC News began asking questions about the AGM renewals, the ads with the celebrity contractor disappeared.
AGM denies any irregularity and said it has no registration of an investigation by ESA. The company did not answer a question about the use of electricians without a license.
When asked about his current relationship with Holmes, AGM’s director of Operations, Evaldi Balla, declared in an email that the relationship “is in a transition phase” since AGM works through a “brand update” .
