Kalamazoo, Mich. – A Michigan man who was upset because he had to do with pets while his girlfriend’s family was sentenced to eight months in prison on Monday for making a false bomb threat.
The email forced Carnival Corp. to verify more than 1,000 rooms after the ship left Miami in January 2024, prosecutors said.
“Anyone who makes a bomb threat should expect to be taken in his word. Fortunately, this particular deception did not result in physical injuries,” said the United States assistant prosecutor Nils Kessler, in a judicial presentation.
Joshua Lowe, 19, was sentenced to prison during an appearance in a federal court in Kalamazoo.
“FBI agents tracked Lowe’s email address, who lived with his girlfriend’s family,” Kessler said. “Lowe admitted that he sent the message because he was upset because the family went to the cruise, while leaving him behind to take care of his pets.”
Lowe apologized in a letter to the American district judge Paul Maloney.
“All this is my fault and assumes all responsibility,” he said.
