Nueva Delhi: The Interior Minister of the Union, Amit Shah, praised the surrender of 50 Naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur districtdescribing it as an important step to end naxalism in the country. In a publication about X, Shah welcomed those who had left weapons and urged others to abandon violence and integrate into the mainstream.
“It is a great joy that 50 Naxalites in Bijapur (Chhattisgarh) surrender, abandoning the path of violence. I welcome those who leave violence and weapons and join the main current of development,” Shah wrote.
He reiterated the government’s position, saying: “Modi Ji’s policy is clear that any Naxalite that leaves weapons and adopts the path of development will be rehabilitated and connected to the mainstream. Once again, appeal to the rest of the people so that they give up weapons and will join the mainstream. After March 31, 2026, Naxalism will become only history in the country, this is our resolution.
According to police officers, the 50 Naxalites delivered included 14 with a cumulative reward of RS 68 Lakh in their heads. Among them, six carried rewards of RS 8 Lakh each, three had rewards of RS 5 Lakh, and another five had rewards of RS 1 Lakh each. The surrender was facilitated by the District Reserve Guard (DRG), the Bastar Combatters, the Special Task Force (STF), the CRPF and its Cobra Elite unit.
The Bijapur police senior superintendent, Jitendra Kumar Yadav, declared that the Naxalites delivered cited disappointment with the Maoist ideology and exploitation of the upper paintings as reasons for their decision. “They were also influenced by the growing presence of security forces and government initiatives such as the ‘Niya Nellanar’ scheme, which provides basic services in remote areas,” said Yadav. The Government has assured that those who surrender will be rehabilitated under official policy.
The surrender is presented just ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the State. Meanwhile, security forces continue operations against Naxal insurgents. In an important recent meeting, 18 Naxalites, including 11 women, were killed in twin operations in Sukma and Bijapur, marking a significant advance in the ongoing mission to eliminate naxalism before 2026.
Only this year, 134 Naxalitas have been killed in Chhattisgarh, with 118 eliminated in the Bastar region. In addition, 792 Naxalitas have surrendered in the seven districts of Bastar in 2024. Chhattisgarh’s prime minister, Vishnu Deo Sai, praised the security forces for their efforts, expressing the confidence that Shah’s vision of a Naxal -free India for 2026 will be carried out.
