Aiden Markram from South Africa reached 82 before the left arm spinner Keshav Maharaj broke in the new batting order of Australia, since the proteases claimed the opening of the one -day international series for 98 races in Cairns on Tuesday.
Sent to Bat, Markram, opening for the first time in Odis since 2021, creaked nine limits on its 81 balls for Power South Africa to a formidable 296-8.
Captain Teath Bavuma (65) and Matthew Bretzke (57) also helped establish the tone for the ODI series of three games.
In response, the Mitsh Marsh’s openers and Travis’s head flattened the pacemakers in South Africa while Australia ran to 60-0 after seven overs.
But the game overturned after the introduction of Spin, with Maharaj evoking an unbridled turn, and picked up four WICKETS in his first 15 balls.
He ended with the best figures of his 5-33 race of 10 overs, since Australia was fired by 198 in the 41st.
It was a strong rebound from South Africa after its 2-1 defeat in the Twenty20 series among the teams.
“I just tried to use the conditions and I was lucky to get the rewards,” Maharaj said.
Marsh played a lonely hand with 88 of 96 balls in a disappointing batting effort of Australia, passing after the recent retirees of veterans Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell of Odi Cricket.
“He (Maharaj) is an outstanding bowling player and there was certainly a little more turn than we expected,” said Marsh, who is Captain of Australia in this series instead of Pat Cummins.
South Africa had been shaken by the news that quick Kagiso Rabada would lose the series with an ankle injury.
A markram without noise seemed to be reaching his fourth century of hate before being caught behind the left arm Ben Dwarshuis in 24.
Breetzke beat a slow Bavuma, interpreting his third hate.
But South Africa lost three wickts for only seven races with the fall of Breetzke, Tristan Stubbs (Duck) and Dewald Brevis (six), before Bavuma continued.
After a T20 series, the debutant of Odi Brevis breed a first bag six, but then faced the head, who ended with 4-57.
Head’s excellent game continued with the bat until he was perplexed by 27, providing the underground of Prenelan debutant with his first Wickt Odi.
Making his return since he was eliminated from the Australian test team, Marnus Labuschagne (one) fell into his sixth installment after unsuccessfully reviewing an LBW decision against Maharaj.
Cameron Green (Tres) and Josh Inglis (five) were clean by a pumped maharaj, who also had Alex Carey LBW for a golden duck.
Maharaj could not complete the hat-trick, but claimed his first transport of five Wickt in the Cricket Odi when he knocked Aaron Hardie (four).
The second game will be played in the city of Mackay in the north of Queensland on Friday.
