New York – Mariah Carey, Chubby Checker, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast and Phish are some of the 2025 nominees for induction in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, a list that also includes two sets of musical brothers who have had disputes public and recent meetings, black crowes and oasis.
The Hall revealed the list of 14 artists nominees on Wednesday, including Bad Company, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Maná, Soundgarden and White Stripes.
Eight of the 14 nominees are on the ballot for the first time: Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Maná, Outkast and Phish.
Two candidates this year, Carey and Checker, have had powerful impacts on lists and culture. Carey has 19 successes No. 1 in the Billboard Hot 100, while the recording of “The Twist” Checker and the subsequent “Let’s Twist Again” are considered among the most popular songs in the history of rock ‘N’ Roll.
Oasis was one of the dominant British acts of the 1990s, producing successes, including “Wonderwall” and “Do not look back with anger.” Its sound was fed by Rock choirs of Singgalong and the fuel chemistry between guitarist Noel Gallagher and his brother Liam, the band singer.
Its American equivalent is The Black Crowes, which mixes Southern Boogie, stuttering Stomp, harmonic blues, glam rock and the harmonies of the 70s that begin with their debut album “Shake Your Money Maker”. For many years, singer Chris Robinson and his brother, guitarist Rich Robinson, did not speak.
Lauper jumped to fame in the 1980s with successes such as “Time After Time” and “Girls just want to have fun” and won a Tony prize for “Kinky Boots”. Outkast, composed of André 3000 and Big Boi, has six Grammys and the reputation of pushing hip-hop limits.
The income of 2025 will be revealed at the end of April, together with the income that enters the room under three special committee categories: musical influence, musical excellence and the Ahmet Ertegun non -playing award.
Artists must have launched their first commercial recording at least 25 years before they are eligible for induction. The induction ceremony will take place in Los Angeles this fall.
The nominees will be voted for more than 1,200 artists, historians and professionals of the music industry. The selection criteria include “the impact of an artist on other musicians, the scope and longevity of his career and body, as well as his innovation and excellence in style and technique.”
Last year, Mary J. Blige, Cher, Foreigner, a tribe called Quest, Kool & The Gang, Ozzy Osbourne, the Dave Matthews band and the singer-guitarist Peter Frampton were induced.
