The plane of the Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Munich turned around Thursday night after “experienced a mechanical problem,” according to the State Department.
The spokesman for the State Department, Tammy Bruce, said in a statement that the problem was a broken windshield and that Rubio “intends to continue his trip to Germany and the Middle East in a separate air ship.”
Rubio’s plane, which went to Munich for the Munich Security Conference this weekend, landed at the Andrews joint base, Maryland, around 10 pm et.
Vice President JD Vance and a bipartisan delegation of 18 legislators led by Sens. Lindsey Graham, RS.C. and Sheldon Whitehouse, Dr.i., are also scheduled to attend the conference, which is a forum for international security policy.
The war between Russia and Ukraine dominated last year’s conference, and is expected to be a central theme at this weekend.
President Donald Trump sent Vance, Rubio, the Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and the special envoy of Ukraine Keith Kellogg to Europe for a series of high -level meetings.
In a separate incident, dozens of people were injured on Thursday after a vehicle got into a crowd in Munich. German authorities have referred to the incident as a “suspicious attack.”
