The MLA of Manitoba can soon be showing their pipes, and their Canadian pride, every day of legislative sitting.
The chosen members seem to be prepared to ask the Rules Committee of the Legislature to study a progressive conservative proposal of the opposition to have Or Canada sung every day the legislature sits.
Before the resolution was discussed on Thursday morning, the interim leader of the PC, Wayne Ewasko, told the period of questions that the “daily attack of US and Chinese tariffs” has shown “it is important that we all recognize the important things that Canadian and part of the Commonwealth.”
The ruling party would not say whether the national anthem song supports, but the leader of the NDP representatives, Nanni Fontaine, sounded receptive when he told journalists that the national anthem is commonly heard inside and outside the legislature.
“We sing Or Canada When our invoices receive real assent. We sing Or Canada When we are in the games. We sing Or Canada All the time, “he said.
“We are all very proud.”
‘Permanent symbol’ of pride
Fontaine said that only a few days ago the government addressed US threats to Canada’s sovereignty by organizing an “Rally For Canada” event in front of the Canadian giant flag covered the legislative building.
“We are defending our country,” he said.
The text of the PC resolution says that singing the national anthem every day would be a “permanent symbol of Canadian collective pride.”
It suggests that the national anthem is sung after the daily recognition of prayer and land.
Ewasko asked the NDP to support the resolution during the questions on Wednesday.
“It is important that we educate our children and young people about our Canadian history, our traditions and our inheritance,” he said.
While conservatives are asking legislators to unanimously support the resolution, the debate is not necessary.
Traditionally, the leaders of the party’s house meet privately to discuss possible changes in the rules, which are then referred to the Permanent Committee of Chamber Rules.
The Committee is chaired by the President of the Chamber and includes the leaders of the House of Representatives of the PND and the progressive ones of the Chamber, as well as the only liberal member of the Legislature.

Provincial legislators have demonstrated a will in recent years to make adjustments to the traditional opening of the days of legislative feeling.
The province adopted a land recognition in 2021, while the current NDP government expressed an interest in 2024 by making daily prayer more inclusive of people who practice religions other than Christianity and those without faith. Any change in sentence must also be sent to the rules committee.
In Ottawa, the national anthem is sung weekly when the House of Commons is sitting.
