TO little court UP’s Mainpuri on Tuesday sentenced a 37-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping a 5-year-old girl after a three-month trial.
In a police report, the girl’s father said the incident occurred on July 23 when he and his wife were working in their agricultural field. He alleged that when they returned home they found the accused standing in the yard, while his daughter was inside, covered in blood. The father said he tried to catch the accused, who is a resident of the same village, but he ran away.
The police filed a case against the accused under BNS sections 65-2 (rape of a female under twelve years of age) and 351-2 (criminal intimidation) and provisions of the Pocso Act, and arrested him. The accused was later sent to prison and the charge sheet was filed before the Pocso court. Deputy District Attorney (ADGC) Anup Yadav told TOI, “Based on the testimonies and evidence presented by the prosecution, the court convicted the man of rape and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on him which will go towards the rehabilitation of the survivor.
