Man from U.S. caught trying to enter Canada by kayak, LaSalle police say


Lasalle, Ontario, the police said that one of its officers made an unexpected discovery early Wednesday, finding a man from the United States who allegedly tried to enter Canada by Kayak illegally.

In a press release, Lasalle’s police service said around 1 am et, an officer “was carrying out commercial properties controls in Front Road’s block, which travels along the edge of the Detroit river.

The officer was behind one of the businesses when he saw a man on the edge of the river with a kayak and two backpacks, said Lasalle Police.

“The officer investigated and discovered that the man was trying to enter Canada illegally.”

Police said they arrested the 51 -year -old man from the United States and delivered it to the RCMP “for greater investigation.”

A local federal police spokesman, who handles border problems outside the official entry ports, did not immediately respond to a comment application.

Lasalle police chief Michael Pearce praised the officer’s discovery on Wednesday.

“This is an outstanding example that shows that proactive police work can produce unwanted positive results,” Pearce said in the press release.

“While I made a simple property check, I am sure that our officer did not expect to find someone who tried to enter Canada.”
