A 50 -year -old man is dead and another has minor injuries after a hydroplary overturned during the take -off of the Richelieu River on Friday morning in the Montérégie region, located on the southern coast of Montreal.
The incident occurred around 11 am near Saint-Basile-Le-Grand, about 30 kilometers east of the center of Montreal.
One of the men managed to escape from the plane and swim to the coast, suffering only minor injuries, according to Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The second man was caught on the plane in the middle of the river.
Using ships, local firefighters Régie Intermunicipa de Sécurité in Fate of the Vallée-Du-Richelieu (RISIVR) rescued the second man at 2 pm
He was taken to the hospital, where he was later declared dead, police said.
The plane was towed to the shore.
The cause of the incident is not yet known, but the Canada Transport Security Board (TSB) is investigating.
