New Delhi: Each man is obliged to the law to provide maintenance to his wife, even if he is unemployed, but what happens in cases where the wife is employed and gaining generously? Can you claim the maintenance of your separate husband? The Supreme Court decided on Friday to judge the issue, reports Amit Anand Choudhary.
While listening to a legal battle between a work couple, the bank asked them to place before their salary slipped from January last year. Both the husband and the wife are assistant teachers and live separately. The award of the case would have broader implications, since many cases of couples who work are presented to the courts on the issue of maintenance.
The bank listened to a plea of the wife who sought maintenance. Oppose to his plea, lawyer Shashank Singh, appearing for the husband, told the court that he was winning around RS 60,000 per month and both were occupying the position of the same qualification.
