A magnitude 5 earthquake occurred near Layyah in Punjab on Saturday night, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Pakistan sits on three major tectonic plates: the Arabian, Eurasian and Indian plates, which create five seismic zones beneath the country. The intersection of multiple faults means that tectonic movements remain frequent in the region.
The development comes a few days after the tremors of a 5.2 magnitude earthquake were felt in Chitral and Swat districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday.
A 5.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Quetta on Sunday afternoon.
An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 was also recorded in KP last Saturday.
