M K Stalin raises concerns over potential reduction of parliamentary seats in Tamil Nadu | India News

Tamil Nadu’s prime minister, MK Stalin, expressed concern on Sunday about the possible reduction in parliamentary seats, attributing it to the successful implementation of the state of Family Planning Initiatives.
Previously, Stalin had referred to this problem, suggesting that Lok Sabha’s delimitation exercise could lead people to consider having “16 children”, referring to a traditional Tamil proverb about different forms of wealth.
The president of DMK, speaking at the wedding ceremony of a party official in his constituency of Koathur, encouraged the couple to select the appropriate tamile names for their future children.
He stressed that the family planning program advocates reflective family size management.
The prime minister pointed out that the constant adhesion of the State to family planning measures has led to the current situation in which the number of parliamentary seats could be reduced through delimitation.
Tamil Nadu, currently occupying 39 Lok Sabha seats, has expressed a strong opposition to any reduction proposed in its parliamentary representation after delimitation.
