An 18-year-old Brampton man who was recently charged with home invasion and bank robbery in the GTA has been identified as a suspect in a shooting that occurred outside southwestern Ontario’s largest emergency department in December, police say. London.
London police have filed charges against Doneil Josiah Levy-Porter, but said late Wednesday that the suspect is currently in police custody in another jurisdiction on unrelated charges.
The brazen shooting occurred outside London Health Sciences Center (LHSC) Victoria Hospital at around 2.30am on December 14, when a truck pulled up to the emergency room and crashed into a cement pillar . A second vehicle arrived and multiple gunshots were heard, police said.
The incident left people scrambling for shelter and staff inside shaken and renewed calls for better safety measures at LHSC. This prompted a Code Silver to be called to the hospital, informing staff that there was someone with a gun or an active shooter on the property.
Acting hospital director David Musyj promised to install metal detectors outside the emergency department after the shooting.
Levy-Porter is charged with the following:
- Attempted murder with a firearm.
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.
- Dangerous operation of a means of transportation.
- Discharging a restricted firearm or a prohibited firearm in a reckless manner.
- Failure to comply with release order.
- Break the commitment.
He remains detained in another jurisdiction, although London police have not specified where.
According to York Regional Police, Levy-Porter was arrested on Jan. 10, following an investigation into an armed home invasion in Vaughan. The defendant was also charged in connection with a bank robbery on Dec. 23, 2024, in Markham, York police said.
In a news release describing his arrest on Jan. 10, York police said Levy-Porter also had three release orders for previous unrelated and unspecified charges.
