A lifeguard has been hospitalized after she was impaled by an umbrella of the beach when she tried to capture it when the wind left her speechless in Asbury Park, New Jersey, on Wednesday morning, authorities said.
According to Asbury Park firefighters, Kevin Keddy, the incident occurred around 9:30 am along 3rd Street, when a lifeguard, which is believed to be 20 years old, was chasing an umbrella after it was caught by the wind.
He said it seemed that the woman was signed by the umbrella while trying to grab him.
The beach umbrella, said Keddy, crossed his upper left shoulder and came out by his back.
However, Keddy said, the woman was aware and alert throughout the terrible experience and took her to a nearby hospital where she was included in stable conditions.
An investigation is ongoing.
