Liberal leadership race: Party choosing new leader to succeed Trudeau

Leadership Day has arrived

Eight weeks and six days after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his plans to resign, the Liberal Party will announce who will become the newest party leader.

Whoever wins the leadership career will take the party to a new era of Canadian politics, not only one without Trudeau for the first time in more than a decade, but one to be challenged by an unpredictable administration of Trump.

The end of the leadership career also means that a federal choice could be just around the corner.

CBC News has a special coverage of the leadership event from 4 pm et.

We will update this page throughout the night, so maintain this open tab. I am a National writer of National Desk AT CBC News on Tap Tonight to bring you updates as they happen.
