Sheikhupura police arrested a security guard of Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) on Wednesday after the energy division suspended it for dragging a larger customer outside the facilities of the distribution company.
The images of the incident, making the rounds on social networks since July 1, showed a lesco guard dragging an old woman along the ground along with her arm while taking her out of the facilities.
According to a declaration of the Energy Division issued today, the incident of bad behavior took place on June 30. “The Security Guard was immediately suspended [and] A first information report was presented. The security guard is now in police custody, ”added the statement.
“Breaking the law and humiliating the public will not be tolerated,” warned the power division, highlighting that he took strict measures against the misconduct of the guard.
The statement added that measures were being taken to fire the security guard of his work and that the power division ordered that a consultation report be provided within three days.
Orders were also sent to other energy and distribution supply companies to “take immediate measures and issue instructions to all offices.”
“Power’s division apologizes to the old woman and other consumers for the act of this individual,” reads the statement. “We respect our consumers a lot.”
The Sheikhupura police also confirmed the arrest of man in a Facebook post, detailing that the viral footage led the District officer (DPO) Bilal Zafar Sheikh to realize the incident.
“The police arrested the suspect and registered a case,” said DPO Sheikh. “No one is allowed to take the law in their own hands.”
