It is likely that the intensity of heat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will increase from April 27 to 30 with daytime temperatures that are expected to rise to 4 to 6 higher degrees than usual, said the Provincial Authority of Disaster Management (PDMA) in a statement on Friday.
Climate change is a pressing reality for Pakistan, directly impacting millions of lives. Thermal waves, intensified by climate change, are becoming more frequent, prolonged and severe, which disproportionately affects communities with limited resources to adapt.
“The intensity of heat is likely to increase in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from April 27 to 30,” said the KP PDMA letter, adding that due to extremely hot weather, daytime temperatures are probably 4 to 6 degrees Celsius higher than normal.
“As of April 30, a western system will enter the upper areas of the province, because rain and hail are also probable,” the letter added.
Due to heat, there are possibilities of heat and pressure blows on water deposits, said the PDMA.
The letter added that farmers must handle water properly for crops, and the elderly and children should not rise directly between 10 am and 5 pm
The public must remain informed about the heat wave through public awareness and health services campaigns, the paramedics and rescue departments must receive instructions to remain alert, and the cerebrovascular heat accident centers must remain active, according to the letter.
“People must take precautionary measures while it comes to sunlight,” the statement quoted the general director of KP PDMA Asfandyar Khattak.
Special care of cattle and pet needs must be taken, said the PDMA.
“The public must verify the water in the engine of their vehicle and the pressure on the tires before traveling,” said the statement citing the PDMA spokesman.
“The PDMA emergency operation center is fully functional and the public must inform any unpleasant incident in our 1700 aid,” the statement concluded.
Last week, six people were injured in lightning when the rain and hail storm whipped large parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the PDMA issued a flood warning for the Kabul River and its tributaries.
Six people suffered wounds after the car in which they were traveling was hit by lightning in the Tangai area of the Charsadda district in the midst of downpours and hail.
At the beginning of the month, the KP PDMA, in the light of increasing temperatures, had warned about a possible flood situation due to the glacial explosion in the areas of the north of the province.
