Khawaja Asif hails FATF ‘snub’ to Indian designs – Pakistan

Karachi: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said that the decision of the Financiera Action Task Group (FATF) not to place Pakistan in his “gray list”, despite a concerted effort of India and Israel, was a great victory.

In a publication about X on Sunday, Mr. Asif said that Fatf had decided against the list of Pakistan after a meeting of his international cooperation review group one day before.

“It is a great victory for Pakistan that despite all the conspiracies of India and Israel, Pakistan has not been included in Gray’s list,” Asif wrote. He accredited the decision of strong support from the key allies.

“China adopted a clear position and supported relief for Pakistan, while Türkiye supported China’s position,” Asif said. “Japan also completely supported Pakistan, since he is the co -chair of the Pacific Group (APG).”

Fatf, a global guard dog based in Paris that monitors money laundering and terrorism financing, met this week. Its so -called ‘gray list’ places countries under major monitoring until they address identified failures in their financial systems. Being on the list submits a country to more intense supervision, which can affect its banking and economic position with international lenders.

Pakistan was removed from the list in October 2022 after four years of scrutiny.
