Key suspects held in Swat seminary murder case – Pakistan

SWAT: The police officer of the Mohammad Umar Khan district announced on Monday the arrest of key suspects involved in the tragic murder of a minor student in a seminar in the Chaliyar area of Khwazakhela.

The main defendant, Qari Umar and his son, Ihsanullah, were arrested after a certain search operation launched by the Swat police. The two had been fleeing from the incident, which occurred on July 21 and caused generalized outrage throughout the region.

According to the police, the child was brutally tortured to death in the Madressah, supposedly by multiple individuals, including teachers.

The disturbing incident led to the immediate arrest of 10 suspects of the site. However, the main defendant managed to flee, which caused an intensive human hunt.

Dpo Umar said that the arrest of Qari Umar and his son was the result of “tireless efforts” by the Swat Police. “Justice will be guaranteed, and all the people involved in this atrocious act will be taken before justice,” he said.

The murder caused a strong public reaction, with citizens and activists of the rights that demanded responsibility and stricter supervision of the unregistered seminars in the region. Since then, the authorities have reiterated their commitment to safeguard children’s rights and prevent future abuse in religious institutions.
