Katie Thurston confirms her breast cancer is Stage 4

The former “Bachelorette” Katie Thurson confirmed Friday on Instagram that her breast cancer is stage 4 and has spread to her liver.

In a sincere update for spectators, established 43 days after receiving a cancer diagnosis, Thurson shared that the treatment has not yet begun due to the tests and their decision to “focus on fertility” in advance.

After undergoing breast ultrasound, mammography and breast biopsy, Thurson said he also had to have a computerized tomography, an exploration of bone density and a magnetic resonance. She transferred her hospital attention in Los Angeles to New York, where she made a PET exploration, which detected points in her liver that “were a bit suspicious.”

“Unfortunately, today I discovered that my breast cancer has spread to the liver. It is quite small; however, that puts me in stage 4,” he said in Friday’s video.

She shared that her treatment will begin on April 4 and will involve chemotherapy.

“I know that stage 4 may sound very scary, and it can be. However, since I am triple positive, and the points of my liver are quite small and detected early, I feel very optimistic in my result,” he said.

Triple positive refers to a type of breast cancer that involves cancer cells that grow using three different types of receptors, according to a publication on the website of the MD Anderson Cancer Center. It is a positive Bre2 breast cancer, which “is the most treatable breast cancer type, and is the most receptive to treatment,” said Mama’s medical oncologist Dr. Jason Mouabbi in the 2023 blog post.

The Thurson update occurs a few days after marrying the comedian Jeff Arcuri.

It was made public with its diagnosis on February 15.

“This is the first day of sharing and it will be a long one. This first step of acceptance of my reality was the most difficult. But I am ready to fight this,” he said at that time.

Thurson first appeared on television screens as a contestant in “The Bachelor” in 2021. Then he directed the 17th season of “The Bachelorlette”, which premiered in June 2021.
