Karachi: Residents have faced an important water crisis that is destined to aggravate during eid holidays due to excessive water use for festivities and sacrifices.
The main parts of the metropolis continue to face the water scarcity worsening, since the city that requires more than 1.2 billion gallons daily (MGD) obtains only 650 mgd.
In addition, line losses and theft also affect the water supply, leaving a large number of people with a serious shortage of water.
Although the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation announced that the water tanker service will continue during EID holidays, people who depend on the service will have to take additional precautions to minimize the impact that water is barely supplied through the tankers throughout the city.
KWSC says that the 24 -hour oil tanker service to continue exceeding the shortage
According to water service officials, there are more than 3,500 registered water oil tankers that obtain water from seven hydrants in so many city districts to supply citizens.
Water oil operators said that the number of water tank trucks that supply water from the hydrants would be remarkably low during EID holidays, since many oil drivers had already left their home cities for the festival.
Due to the persistent water shortage throughout the city, people depend mainly on water oil tankers. However, they face a lot of difficulties in obtaining it, since the water services company receives more reserves than the water quota reserved for each district.
Muhammad Umair, resident of northern Karachi, said he had been trying to get a water truck during the last three days, but in vain.
“Every time they tell me to wait for my turn, that it never arrives,” he lamented.
The residents also complained that the “oil mafia” did not provide them with a water oil tanker on the official price and always charged them.
A good number of small cars and donkey cars, loaded with water tanks, also operate in many densely populated locations in low -income neighborhoods and sell water at the prices of their choice.
A mason who lived in the city of Baldia said he obtained water through a thrust track and that he was using it very economically, since he could not afford to pay an adequate water oil tanker. “I will take Bath after a week on eid day,” he added.
A spokesman for the water services company said the regular water supply and oil services would continue without interruption during EID holidays.
He said that the decision was made to guarantee the soft and timely water supply to citizens during the festive period.
Muhammad Siddiq Tunio in charge of the Hydrants cell said that all online reservations would receive a timely delivery of water oil tankers throughout EID.
He said that all scheduled sheets of oil drivers and the personnel of the hydrants’ cell had been canceled to ensure that the service remained completely operational during the EID.
Meanwhile, Azizabad residents organized a protest against the KWSC for not providing water in their locality.
