Karachi residents felt another low intensity earthquake on Monday, according to Pakistan’s department of Meteorology (PMD).
The tremor was the third within 24 hours.
The most recent earthquake measured 3.2 on the Richter scale with the densely populated Quaidabad area of the city as its epicenter. The residents of the area had also experienced a similar 3.6 magnitude tremor at 5:33 pm yesterday.
Both earthquakes originated in a shallow depth of 10 kilometers below the surface.
A separate tremor that originated near the city of Gadap of the city was recorded at 1:05 am today. He measured 3.2 on the Richter scale and had a depth of 12 km.
Previously, experts have indicated that such minor seismic activities “are preferred” high intensity earthquakes by constantly releasing accumulated energy within tectonic plates.
The country had witnessed around 20 earthquakes of low intensity in the first half of February, an average of more than one tremor every day.
In April, they felt shaken in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, including Peshawar, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore, twice that month.
Pakistan falls to three important tectonic plates, Arabic, Euro-Asian and Indian, according to the geological engineer Muhammad Rean, creating five seismic areas within the country.
