Residents of Karachi continued to face a worsening water crisis on Friday due to repeated power outages by K-Electric (KE), which have disrupted the city’s water pumping operations.
According to the spokesperson of Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), the city’s crucial K-3 pumping station experienced a major electrical fault last night and the fault was yet to be resolved.
The spokesperson said the station also suffered a major breakdown on Tuesday, and that electricity was restored just a day ago after a 41-hour delay.

Just a few hours later, the fault in the electrical cable reappeared, forcing the station to close again. The station was temporarily closed on Monday to resolve technical issues, but problems persisted.
The breakdowns have caused a total estimated loss of 335 million gallons of water, severely affecting supplies across Karachi. Areas like North Nazimabad, Gulberg Town, Gulistan-i-Johar, Scheme 33, several blocks of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, New Karachi, Saddar and Clifton are among those experiencing severe shortage.
Earlier incidents at the Dhabeji pumping station on November 5, 11, 13 and 15 due to cable faults also led to prolonged power outages and worsened water shortages in the city.
KWSC officials stated that despite all administrative and technical efforts, the lack of constant power supply continued to affect pumping operations.
They urged the KE management to prioritize immediate and stable restoration of power supply to pumping stations to ensure that water supply to Karachi was quickly normalized.
