Karachi: A session court sentenced a man to 14 years in prison for throwing acid at his sister for a real estate dispute.
After listening to the prosecutor Irfana Qadri, the demanding lawyer Bahzad Akbar and the defense side, the additional judge of the district and the ABDUL ZAHOOR Chandio sessions, who was also the president of the Court of Gender Violence (South), found Muhammad Ramzan Guilty to throw acid at his sister Sugchra after he refused to give his part to his brother in the property.
“This case involves an atrocious crime, specifically aimed at a woman with acid, an act that causes physical and psychological trauma for life. Such crimes are not simply crimes against an individual, but are a scourge in society and a hobby of public policy,” the judge observed.
The court also issued additional sentences; Two years in prison for hurting the victim with a knife and four years each for attacking their children, Naeem and Waseem, who had rushed to rescue their mother.
The court also imposed a total compensation of RS450,000 for hurting the victims.
According to the state prosecutor, in November 2022 the victim had gone to his brother’s house in Manzoor Col Col Col Col Col Col Col Col Col Col Col Col Col Col Colss, where he (the defendant) threw acid. However, he managed to escape and ran to a nearby house, but the defendant pursued her and again attacked her and her children with a knife.
The prosecutor also declared that the defendant had lost his part of the inheritance in the game and was pressing his sister to give him his part, and for his refusal, he gave him acid.
In his order, the court pointed out that the defendant in his statement claimed innocence and denied the accusations.
However, he added that the defendant could not provide any alternative version of the events or offer any plausible explanation for the injuries suffered by the victims.
