Weeks after the city of Chicago and Jussie Smollett announced an agreement to resolve their legal battle of years on the 2019 actor’s statement that he was the victim of a hate crime, Smollett resorted to social networks to reveal the terms of the agreement.
Smollett said Friday that he would donate $ 50,000 to Building Bright Futures Center for the Arts Charity as part of an agreement to ensure the dismissal of the case. Smollett said he would make an additional donation of $ 10,000 to Chicago Torture Justice Center.
NBC News communicated with the construction of the Bruvial Futures Center for the Arts and the City of Chicago to confirm Donations and details of Smollett about the agreement, but did not immediately receive an answer to a request for comments.
Chicago Torture Justice Center confirmed Smollett’s donation at an Instagram post on Friday.
The actor said that his decision to resolve civil demand “was not the most difficult” to do and allowed him to support communities “often careless for those in power.”
Smollett, which is black and gay, first reported a hate crime against him in January 2019, claiming that two men confronted him with racial and homophobic insults, wrapped a rope around his neck and threw him bleach.
However, police officers and the city said later that he orchestrated the hate crime of deception against himself. The city’s demand accused Smollett of presenting a false police report on January 29, 2019, saying that he knew his attackers and planned the attack, and sought $ 130,000 in expenses spent in police investigation.
Smollett replied, denying that he has orchestrated the attack.
The Olabingo and Abimbola Osundairo brothers, who worked on the set “Empire”, said Smollett paid them to organize hate crime and testified against the actor during his trial.
Smollett was convicted of five disorderly behavior charges of serious crimes in December 2021, and sentenced to 150 days in jail and 30 months of probation in March 2022, but the Supreme Court of Illinois revoked the sentence in November 2024 for tax matters.
The State Superior Court ruled that Smollett should never have been accused in the first place after entering a non -presence agreement with the Cook County State Prosecutor’s Office.
Smollett has maintained its innocence over the years. He ended his position by thanking his followers.
