Juliette Powell, a former very very very presenter and the first black woman to be crowned Miss Canada, has died at the age of 54.
Powell, who was born in New York but moved to Montreal when he was a child with his French Canadian mother, died unexpectedly on June 3 after getting sick with acute bacterial meningitis, according to an obituary published online.
It became a VJ for Musiqueplus, the counterpart in French of Muchomusic, in 1992 and was host of the Weekly Dance Music Show of The Channel Bouge de Là! while she was a business student at the McGill University of Montreal.
Powell later moved to the La Mancha Canal to present his popular Dance Music show from Friday Night Electric circus From 1996 to 2000 and The Francophone Music Show French kiss.
She was an economy student at the University of Toronto during her time in Muchmusic.

The former colleagues remember Powell
Her former Mu -Music colleagues remembered her on social networks on Tuesday after news of her death arose.
The former host teacher said he was “blessed” work with Powell.
“Your inflatable positive energy will be lost. Rest easy, Juliette Powell! He left too early!” He wrote in a publication about his Instagram story about a photo of Powell sitting on a desk in the control room with a smile on his face.
“Rest at a peaceful heavenly party,” said Sook-Yin Lee, another former VJ and former CBC radio presenter, in an Instagram history publication.
“Before being a VJ, I was a fan. Seeing manymusic everything I could. Juliette was great, so great.
After Muchomusic, Powell began as a business reporter for Toronto News Channel CP24 and also founded a media and consulting company that led her to produce interviews with a variety of prominent people, including Nelson Mandela, Steven Spielberg and Janet Jackson.
Powell opened land in the world of beauty contest
Before being a fixed element on Canadian television, Powell launched himself in the world of beauty contest when Miss Canada 1989 was crowned in October 1988, then represented Canada in the Miss Universe contest the following May.
His obituary says he was “motivated by the desire to challenge racial prejudices in beauty competitions.”
At the time of his coronation, Powell said she was proud to be the first mixed breed person to win the contest.
She said that “it would gladly serve as a model to follow for Black and Black Canadians” and that her victory was “a great proof of multiculturalism in this country,” according to an article by the Canadian press published by the Gazette of Montreal on November 1, 1988.
When he crowned his successor a year later, Powell said that the best part of being Miss Canada was to see how much he had “developed and won” during his reign.

A new professional career
Powell’s interests in Technology and Ethics led her to a new race after her time as a television and reporter presenter.
He worked on advice roles for the United Nations, the World Bank and the World Economic Forum.
He studied at Columbia University and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Sociology.
He joined the Faculty of Telecommunications of the University of New York in 2021 and co -founded the consulting firm based in New York Kleiner Powell International in 2024.
She was a main speaker and a commentator, appearing in CBC News, NBC, BBC and other Canadian and American networks, sharing her experience in problems such as privacy, cybersecurity and unconscious bias in technology.
He had two books in his name: 2009’s 33 million people in the room: how to create, influence and direct a successful business using social networks and The dilemma of AI: 7 principles for responsible technologywhich was co -author in 2023.
But beyond his career, his friends went where he had “the greatest impact,” reads his obituary.
“Juliette had a magical way of attracting people with their contagious enthusiasm, and their brilliant intelligence and their beautiful smile illuminated every room where he ever entered. His loss is devastating and many will deeply miss, painfully, so many.”
